Halloween

Image
We had lots of fun today in Junior and Senior Infants. It was so lovely to see all the very creative and spooky Halloween costumes. The children really enjoyed the costume parade outside where they got to show off their costume and see all the children in the other classes too! We also had fun reading a Halloween story, listening to Halloween music and doing some Halloween activities. Happy Halloween!

Maths week stations

Image
We started Maths stations yesterday. We focused a lot on maths language e.g. big, small, long, short, full, empty, heavy, light with lots of fun learning activities. The children explored capacity at the sand table and carried out little counting tasks and estimated how many spoons of sand it would take to fill a cup. Senior Infants explored the story of 7 and 8 at the drawing / writing table. Junior Infants practiced number recognition with a fun clothes pegs activity. We explored 2D shapes and were able to find circles, squares, rectangles, triangles and even hexagons. The children created very cool shape pictures. We look forward to finishing the stations on Friday!

Maths week STEM challenge

Image
It's Maths Week! This week we read the story 'Rapunzel' and had a STEM challenge based on the story. First we discussed the story. Then the children brainstormed different ways Rapunzel could get out of the tower. They drew their great ideas on whiteboards. Lastly the children have been busy building their creations at school and at home and have come up with some very imaginative creations! Well done everyone.

Junior Infant Fun!

Junior Infants have been busy this week with some fun fine motor stations: shape blocks, kinetic sand and trying to put beads on spaghetti. This was tricky but the Juniors did super! We have also been working on Phonics and have learnt the sounds 's', 'a' and 't'. The children had lots of fun looking for the letters in our library books using the LED mini torches!
