Science - Towers around the world

Image
This week in Science we were learning about different towers around the world - The Eiffel Tower, Shanghai Tower, Space Needle, Leaning Tower of Pisa and a round tower in Ireland. We saw some pictures of tall towers, round towers and some unusual looking towers. Then the children were given a task to build a tower with their friends using a range of different blocks and materials e.g. plastic cups, wooden blocks, old recycled materials, straws, big plastic blocks etc. Some children created replicas of the towers we learned about. Others made towers using their imagination. I think we have some future engineers in this classroom!

Readathon - Dress up day

Last week we had our Readathon Dress Up Day! It was lots of fun and the children had such cool costumes. We had visitors from third class and got to hear about the character they chose for their costumes. We also got to visit Ms. Mitchell's class to see all their costumes. And of course we did more buddy reading too. What a great day!

Readathon - Buddy Reading

We are really enjoying the Readathon in Junior and Senior Infants. The children bring in lovely books from home and love D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) time in the classroom. They love showing their books to their friends. We have read lots of lovely stories in class and listened to a lovely story today on Storyline called 'When a Dragon Moves In'. We also have really enjoyed doing buddy reading with older classes. We were lucky enough to do it with 2nd class and 5th and 6th class. The children had loads of fun.
